HW Finance are pleased to partner with a family owned SME in Huddersfield to hire a newly created role for a Group Financial Controller.

The business are in the engineering and construction sector, with a turnover of c£70m and over 30 entities across the group operating internationally with offices or partners across Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

Role Overview

Reporting into the current Financial Director, the Group Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial management and reporting of the entire group. This includes consolidation of financial results, management of the finance team, and ensuring robust financial controls and reporting processes.

This is a senior leadership role within the finance team, requiring a commercially aware finance professional capable of dropping down into the detail as required.

Key Responsibilities

Group Financial Reporting & Consolidation

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial consolidation of all group entities (30+ companies).
• Prepare group consolidated financial statements, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and reconciliations across the group.
• Deliver accurate and timely group management accounts with analysis and commentary.
• Support the preparation of statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors.

Financial Control & Governance

• Establish and maintain strong financial controls, policies and procedures across all entities.
• Ensure compliance with UK GAAP / IFRS and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Oversee balance sheet integrity and ensure robust reconciliation processes.
• Manage group-wide accounting policies and ensure consistency across all subsidiaries.

International Finance Oversight

• Manage financial reporting and compliance for international entities and operations.
• Coordinate with overseas finance teams, advisors, and accountants.
• Ensure correct treatment of foreign exchange, international tax considerations and local regulatory requirements.

Finance Systems & Process Improvement

• Oversee the group’s use of Xero and related financial systems.
• Drive improvements in finance processes, reporting automation, and systems integration.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor and develop the group finance team.
• Manage and support finance managers and accountants across multiple entities.
• Build a high-performing finance function focused on accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Support recruitment and development of finance staff as the business grows.

Business Partnering & Strategic Support

• Work closely with the CFO / Group Finance Director and senior leadership team.
• Provide financial insight and analysis to support strategic decision making.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning.
• Assist with acquisitions, integrations, and corporate restructuring where relevant.

We are looking for someone ACA or ACCA qualified with a strong technical accounting background and prior experience in managing multi-entity group structures and group consolidations. Strong working knowledge of Xero would also be advantageous.
